The matter of plagiarism: What, Why, and If

What I expect to learn:

I expect to learn the message of this chapter and the meaning of plagiarism.

Book Review:

First, what is plagiarism? Based from Wikipedia, Plagiarism as defined in the 1995 Random House Compact Unabridged Dictionary, is the "use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work."[1] Within academia, plagiarism by students, professors, or researchers is considered academic dishonesty or academic fraud and offenders are subject to academic censure, up to and including expulsion. In journalism, plagiarism is considered a breach of journalistic ethics, and reporters caught plagiarizing typically face disciplinary measures ranging from suspension to termination of employment.

My own opinion about plagiarism is that based from what i've learned in school, it is basically like the copying of content from different sources, but not being able to acknowledge the source of the information. Once again, i think it has something in connection with the internet. Again, plagiarism likewise is not a good thing. When someone copied a content from its original owner without acknowedging or asking for permission. Most especially the works of people with a copyright,  it is really important for a permission for copying it.

To sum it all, it is important to acknowledge a copied information or content for its owner or if ever it is not originally made by that person. The real owner of the original content can sue the person who copied because the owner have the complete rights for the content because he is the one who created it. Again, my source for the definition of plagiarism is Wikipedia.

What I have learned:

I have learned that plagiarism is a big deal for the creators of different works.

Integrative Question:

1. What is the meaning of plagiarism?

2. What is the importance of not plagiarizing?

3. Can the creators sue the copier?

4. How is this connected with the chapter talking about internet?

5. How come plagiarism is a big deal?
